Technical Support Engineer


Are you a software support engineer who loves learning new technology? Do you thrive in an environment where creative solutions are the standard?  Are you looking for a position where your contribution is visible both inside your company and out?  If so, then you may be the technical support engineer that we are seeking. 

We are looking to fill a key position on our technical support team. This position is responsible for responding to questions and issues related to the development and deployment of StreamBase real-time data processing systems, building and populating the company’s knowledge base, and supporting both customers and field engineers. 

This position is based in London, England.


 

Responsibilities

Provide email- and telephone-based technical support to StreamBase customers and evaluators, including installation troubleshooting, product configuration assistance, hardware and operating system troubleshooting related to proper product installation and operation, and troubleshooting improper product operation and/or erroneous product use.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex customer issues, and act as a liaison between customers and StreamBase Engineering.
  • Develop sample applications and gather technical data as required to solve complex customer issues.
  • Engage third-party vendors to assist in the troubleshooting process.
  • A potential to travel to customer sites.  Required travel approximately 20%.
  • Clearly articulate to customers and StreamBase management a problem definition and resolution plan. 

 

Required Experience

  • 4+ years of work experience in customer-facing software technical support in a support organization with close ties to sales.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills, previous software development experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting enterprise software products for high visibility customers. 

 

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Linux, Solaris, and Windows operating systems, including installation, configuration, system administration, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Application design and programming experience in the following languages: Java, and XML.
  • Knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, SQLServer, etc.).
  • Passion for working with people, and a strong interest in helping customers succeed.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and work well under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal management direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills



Preference given for:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, engineering or related field.
  • More than 2 years of experience supporting a complex product.
  • Experience working with customers in the financial industry
  • Proven success working in a small company or a startup
